The Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia (FKG UI) once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening the internationalization of education through the implementation of a student exchange program that took place on March 9-20, 2026. The program was attended by four international students, namely Izaki Ayano and Saito Takuto from Tohoku University, Japan, and Natapat Tarapun and Naipaporn Sungpankao from the University of Phayao, Thailand.
This activity is part of FKG UI’s efforts to expand global networks while providing cross-cultural learning experiences for international students. The student exchange program is a form of higher education collaboration that provides opportunities for students to learn in different academic environments and enrich global perspectives.
During the two-week program, participants participated in a series of academic and non-academic activities designed to provide a comprehensive experience in the field of dentistry. Activities included lectures, scientific discussions, introduction to the dental education system at FKG UI, and observation of dental and oral health services. In addition, participants are also involved in cultural exchange activities that strengthen relations between countries.
As part of the introduction to Indonesian culture, the participants also visited the Textile Museum and Saung Angklung Udjo in Bandung. In these activities, students were introduced to the art of batik and traditional angklung music and had the opportunity to participate directly in the performances. This activity is one of FKG UI’s efforts to introduce the richness of Indonesian culture while strengthening cross-cultural understanding for international students.
Through this program, FKG UI not only provides academic experience, but also introduces Indonesian cultural values to international students. The interaction is expected to strengthen cross-cultural understanding and build global networks in the field of dentistry.
Dean of FKG UI, Prof. drg. Lisa Rinanda Amir, Ph.D., PBO, said that this program is an important part of FKG UI’s internationalization strategy.
“This student exchange program is a form of FKG UI’s commitment to providing an international standard learning experience. Through academic and cultural interactions, we hope that students can share knowledge and strengthen global networks that are beneficial for the development of dentistry,” said Prof. Lisa.
In the future, FKG UI will continue to develop student exchange programs as part of efforts to improve the quality of education and strengthen collaboration with partner institutions in various countries. Through this initiative, FKG UI is committed to producing graduates who are superior, adaptive, and globally competitive.
