Participation at Georgetown University, FKG UI Develops Experiential Learning Opportunities and Academic Collaboration

The Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Indonesia (FKG UI) continues to expand its international network through participation in the Georgetown University Global Health Education and Research Symposium held on February 24-27, 2026 at the Department of Global Health, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA.

FKG UI was represented by drg. Atik Ramadhani, PhD and Prof. drg. Diah Ayu Maharani, PhD. The presence of FKG UI in this forum marks an active role as one of the new partners in theexperiential learning program developed by Georgetown University.

This symposium is an important part of strengthening the experiential learning program that brings together preceptors and partner institutions from various countries to exchange ideas, share research results, and strengthen collaboration in the field of education and global health research.

The series of activities began with a Welcome Dinner on February 24, 2026 as a place to build networks between participants. Furthermore, on February 25, 2026, activities at the Capitol Campus Georgetown University were filled with opening sessions, experiential learning program consultations for undergraduate and master’s levels, as well as discussions and workshops that discussed various important aspects, ranging from strengthening institutional relations, cultural adaptation of students in international programs, to developing research projects.

On February 26, 2026, activities continued at Hilltop Campus with a welcome from the Chair of the Department of Global Health, Prof. Dr. Jennifer Bouey. The agenda included a discussion of research collaboration opportunities, a public lecture on the role of universities in global health development, and a meet and greet session with Georgetown University students who will take part in experiential learning programs in Indonesia, including at FKG UI.

The activity was closed on February 27, 2026 with a session to formulate follow-up cooperation between Georgetown University and partner institutions. During the meeting, the role of each party in supporting the implementation of experiential learning programs and opportunities for future academic collaboration were discussed.

As a concrete follow-up, two Georgetown University undergraduate students are planned to take part in an experiential learning program at FKG UI in the period August to December 2026. In addition, the two institutions are also exploring cooperation in developing international classes in the Master Program in Community Dental Health Sciences (IKGKom) FKG UI, including discussions on curriculum, learning schemes, and scholarship opportunities for Indonesian students.

Dean of FKG UI, Prof. drg. Lisa Rinanda Amir, Ph.D., PBO, said that this participation is a strategic step in strengthening the role of FKG UI at the global level.

“FKG UI’s participation in this international forum is a form of our commitment to continue to strengthen global collaboration in the field of education and research in public dental health. Through cooperation with Georgetown University, we hope to provide a quality international learning experience and open up opportunities for capacity building for FKG UI academicians,” he said.

Through participation in this activity, FKG UI emphasizes its commitment to continue to contribute to the development of higher education and public dental health research that is globally competitive.
