Orthodontics Specialist

The Orthodontics Specialist Dental Education Program is organized by the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia for dentists who have met the academic and professional qualifications. This program is designed to be completed over 6 semesters with a total study load of 55 credits, covering theoretical learning, clinical practice, and research activities in the field of orthodontics.

Education in this program is directed toward forming specialists competent in diagnosing and managing growth and development abnormalities of the dentocraniofacial system from childhood to adulthood. Such management includes preventive, interceptive, and curative approaches, both surgical and non-surgical, with the goal of optimally restoring stomatognathic system function and facial aesthetics.

As part of a higher education institution responsive to global developments in dental science and technology, FKG UI maintains academic and research collaborations with international partner institutions, including: The University of Hong Kong, Radboud University Nijmegen, Kagoshima University, and Chung Shan Medical University. This cooperation strengthens the internationalization dimension of the program through curriculum development, clinical training, and joint scientific activities. Furthermore, this program has obtained an “A” accreditation from the Indonesian Health Higher Education Independent Accreditation Agency (LAM-PTKes).

Program Pillars

The FKG UI Orthodontics Specialist Program is built upon three main pillars: education, research, and community service.

  • Education

Students are equipped with in-depth theoretical knowledge and clinical skills in various contemporary orthodontic topics. Learning materials include Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Multi-Disciplinary Treatment, Orthodontic Miniscrews, and Self-ligating Bracket Systems. The curriculum is structured to meet the competency needs of professional orthodontists who are adaptive to the latest technological developments and clinical approaches.

  • Research

Research activities focus on biomolecular studies and dentocraniofacial growth, development of orthodontic biomaterials, and innovations in orthodontic diagnostic methods. Students are encouraged to be active in research projects relevant to today’s scientific and clinical challenges, while contributing to the development of orthodontic science at national and international levels.

  • Community Service

As a form of social responsibility, this program consistently organizes social service activities in various regions across Indonesia. These activities not only provide dental health services to the community but also expand students’ clinical experience outside the academic environment. Previous activity locations include Banyuwangi (2017), Lombok (2018), Labuan Bajo (2019), and Manado (2020).
