FKG UI Hosts National Competency Test for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialists

The Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia (FKG UI) hosted the National Competency Test (UKOMNAS) for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialists held on February 27-28, 2026. This activity was attended by 14 participants from various education centers for oral and maxillofacial surgery specialists in Indonesia, namely 6 participants from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), 4 participants from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), and 4 participants from Airlangga University (UNAIR).

The implementation of UKOMNAS this time is an important moment because for the first time the competency test is carried out through collaboration between universities organizing specialist education, colleges, and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. This synergy is expected to strengthen the education quality assurance system and ensure high competency standards for dentists specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Indonesia.

The competency test is carried out through several comprehensive assessment stages, namely Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of multiple choice questions (MCQ) and quickslide, followed by Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), and interview sessions. This series of exams is designed to assess participants’ overall abilities, both in terms of knowledge, clinical skills, and professional reasoning.

The participants were assessed by a team of examiners who were members of the Ad Hoc UKOMNAS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, consisting of representatives of the Indonesian Collegium of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the heads of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist study programs from all educational centers in Indonesia, totaling seven institutions.

The exam results showed a proud achievement, where all participants who took part in UKOMNAS this period passed 100 percent. The first rank was achieved by participants from Universitas Airlangga, while the second and third rank were respectively achieved by participants from Universitas Gadjah Mada.

The implementation of UKOMNAS is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the quality and competence of specialist dental graduates in Indonesia, especially in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. With integrated evaluation standards between educational institutions, professional colleges, and the government, it is hoped that graduates can provide optimal health services and contribute to improving the quality of public health services.
