Drg. Benso Sulijaya, Sp.Perio(K)., Ph.D. is a lecturer and clinician in the Department of Periodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2008 and his Professional Dental Degree with cum laude honors in 2009, both at the University of Indonesia. In 2014, he completed his Periodontics Specialist education, also at the University of Indonesia, graduating with cum laude honors as the top student. As part of his international academic development, in 2016 he participated in a Summer School program in Clinical Periodontology and Implantology at Heidelberg University, Germany, supported by a scholarship from the German Society of Periodontology.
Furthermore, in 2019, he completed his Periodontics Consultant education, focusing on reconstructive periodontal surgery and dental implants, after passing the examination from the Indonesian College of Periodontology. In the same year, he earned his Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Periodontics–Immunology–Microbiology from the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Niigata University, Japan, through a full Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship from the Japanese Government.
Active as an educator since 2015, Drg. Benso currently teaches at various levels of education at FKG UI, and actively mentors students in periodontics and scientific research. His expertise includes reconstructive periodontal surgery, regenerative therapy, periodontal immunology-microbiology, and the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic health.
His commitment to research and scientific contributions is evidenced by his involvement in various national and international research projects, publications in reputable SCOPUS-indexed journals, and the receipt of research and community service grants.
As part of the professional community, he is active in various scientific organizations, including the Indonesian Periodontal Association (IPERI), the Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI), the Indonesian College of Periodontology, the International Association for Dental Research – Southeast Asia Division (IADR–SEA), and the Japanese Society of Periodontology (JSP).
