
The Periodontics Specialist Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia, was established in 1984 based on Dikti Decree No. 139/DIKTI/Kep/1984. Since its inception, this program has developed significantly and become one of the leading periodontics specialist education centers in Indonesia. With an evidence-based and research-based approach, the program aims to produce professional, competent, and globally-minded periodontics specialists.
During their education, students will gain an in-depth understanding of various aspects of periodontology, such as periodontal medicine, regenerative therapy, periodontal reconstructive surgery, implantology, as well as multidisciplinary therapy and clinical research. The learning process is conducted by experienced educators and supported by complete clinical facilities at the UI Dental and Oral Hospital (RSKGM UI).
This program was accredited “Excellent” by LAM-PTKes in 2021 (No. 007/LAM-PTKes/BAAkr/VII/2021).

Students are equipped with skills in microsurgical techniques for handling periodontal cases that require high precision. This training focuses on improving the precision of surgical procedures, minimizing tissue trauma, and accelerating the healing process.
This topic emphasizes a periodontics approach for elderly patients. Students learn about age-related biological changes in periodontal tissues, as well as management strategies tailored to the clinical characteristics and needs of geriatric patients.
Through interdepartmental collaboration—Periodontics, Prosthodontics, and Oral Surgery—students are involved in the comprehensive planning and execution of dental implant therapy, covering case evaluation, surgical procedures, and prosthetic rehabilitation.
This program offers students the opportunity to participate in academic activities at Niigata University, Japan. In addition to broadening scientific and cultural horizons, this experience allows students to compare clinical approaches in different healthcare systems.
Students can participate in summer academic activities in advanced periodontology and implantology organized by Heidelberg University, Germany. This program includes intensive lectures, clinical demonstrations, and case discussions with experts from various countries.
These regular clinical case discussions aim to improve analytical skills, clinical data synthesis, and therapeutic decision-making. This activity also serves as a platform for strengthening scientific communication between students and teaching staff.
