Prof. Diah Ayu Maharani, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Public Dental Health Science and Prevention, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Indonesia and continued her doctoral studies in Health Care Economics at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan, completing them in 2009. Since 2011, she has been actively serving as a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Public Dental Health Science and Prevention (IKGMP) at FKG UI.
Beyond her teaching activities, she has held various strategic positions within the academic environment of the University of Indonesia, including Director of UI Education, Head of the Master’s Program in Community Dental Health Science, Head of the Office for Research Product and Innovation Management, and Editor-in-Chief of the Makara Journal of Health Research and the Indonesian Dental Journal. She is also active in the quality assurance process for national scientific publications and has served as a member of the FKG UI Research Ethics Committee. Furthermore, she has been a member of the Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI) since 2019.
In the field of educational diplomacy, Prof. Diah Ayu Maharani also served as the Education and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States, where she played a crucial role in strengthening cooperation and educational and cultural exchange between the two countries.
As an academic, she teaches various courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, such as Health Care Economics, Statistics, Research Methodology, and Preventive Dentistry and Public Health. Her teaching emphasizes the importance of evidence-based practice and a community-centered approach, aiming to produce graduates who are not only clinically competent but also socially sensitive. She actively supervises doctoral students and is involved in various dissertation committees, making significant contributions to shaping the next generation of researchers and academics in the field of dentistry in Indonesia.
Her research interests and expertise include preventive dentistry and public health, health economics, oral health behavior, community dental care strategies, and the socioeconomic determinants of health and access to healthcare services. With over 120 scientific publications in reputable journals and involvement in various national and international research grants, her research endeavors significantly contribute to advancing global public health priorities. She is also active in national and international collaborations to improve awareness and access to dental care, particularly in underserved communities.
